Blue River Valley Schools have been approved by the state to offer e-learning days. Elearning days are typically used to make up snow days. Students will not attend school that day but will complete their work off-site via computer.
Teachers will go over e-learning day procedures with students throughout the school year. I have provided directions below. If you should have any other questions, please contact our office.
DIRECTIONS FOR E-LEARNING DAYS:
In 2020, we are launching Blue River Virtual. This will give you the opportunity to learn similar content online and at home. This is different from E-Learning
On January 22, 2018, Blue River Valley Schools were approved by the Indiana Department of Education to utilize the eLearning Day Program.
Indiana began this process with the IDOE Flex Program and the Virtual Option for Inclement Weather, but now these programs have been combined into the eLearning Day Program.
eLearning Days are actual, legally scheduled school days. They count as a school day exactly like a traditional school day.
On eLearning Days student attendance is taken and recorded, and it is a workday for our teachers. Teachers must be accessible via digital media (or phone) and even special education accommodations must be considered and accessible.
Attendance is recorded by evidence of completed work. In other words, the state says that a student is present if the majority of the work is submitted on time, and in attendance for a fraction of the day if a fraction of the work is submitted. If no work is turned in, the student must be counted absent.
Students who attend the NC Vocational school will be expected to go to classes at the Vocational School. If the Vocational School is in session our students must attend or they will be considered absent, or truant.
All areas and all disciplines will have prepared the equivalent lessons for eLearning Days as they do for traditional days, with the same rigor and connected to the same Indiana Standards. Some lessons may look different than they would on-campus or in a classroom setting (such as Ag, PE or the arts, for example) but they must address the standards and be examples of effective instructional delivery.
Some lessons may be part of ongoing units or programs and may only represent a section or fraction of an overall lesson.
The corporation may use eLearning days for professional learning opportunities for teachers, for parent meetings or for making up school days which were cancelled for bad weather.
In the Jr. Sr. High School and in 5th and 6th grade, which are all one-to- one, student work and teacher contact will be available via Schoology. The Corporation will make every effort to communicate how these days will work. There will be an eLearning page on our website.
In grades PreK through 4, and special education, teachers may use phones or Google Classroom, for teacher contact.
We will also examine the options to open a Jr. Sr. High School computer lab on eLearning Days and staff it as well for access.
As we implement these days we will learn better and more effective ways to conduct them. We will welcome parent and student input in to how we can make them more effective.
